Worship and Praise Team

“You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”
– Revelation 4:11

As far as worship culture at The Way, we are working toward:

  • fearless, abandonment of self in worship—giving God ALL of our praise, without reservation, regardless of current life circumstances, environment, tradition, etc.
  • a servant-leadership culture of putting the needs of people coming in ahead of our own.  That means coming early, staying late, often forgoing our own worship time/experience to help facilitate others’ worship experience.
  • Teamwork culture of the Body of Christ—one body, many parts—each playing its role (sound tech/vocalist/instrumentalist/video/etc.)

Praise & Worship Leader, Matt Hugg

The Worship and Praise Ministry team at The Way is comprised of a diverse group of people who share a common passion for worshiping our Lord through music. We recognize and celebrate the fact that there are a variety of gifts in Christ’s body. Some have been given musical gifts that are to be used to bring blessings and encouragement to the church.

But it goes much deeper than that. We train our vocal and instrumental leaders that the most important element they can bring to Sunday worship and practice is not their “virtuoso” musical talent, but a humble and sincere heart that longs to pursue God through worship. This is the most important character trait we look for and try to develop in our worship team members. If we as worship leaders are insincere, or afraid of looking foolish, or proud about our musical skills, then our hearts are not able to participate in the beautiful exchange that takes place between us and the Holy Spirit as we humble ourselves and worship. If we do not enter into worship fully, and without reservation, then we miss the blessings God has for us, and the people we are trying to lead will likely not enter in either.

We are looking for people who don’t need a stage or an audience to worship, but who worship in their car, while they’re working out, while they’re at work, and while they are at home. These are the true worshipers of God in Spirit and Truth.

If you have a heart that longs to worship God and you are drawn to Him as you use your musical gifts, I would love to meet with you to discuss participation in the Praise and Worship Ministry at The Way.

To schedule a time to meet, please contact Matt by email or contact Lee Smith email.
